Once you get the job interview, and before you run out the door, stop everything! You need to prepare for the interview. The first interview is all about first impressions, and you want to make sure you are ready.

First Impressions are centered on three basic principles, your appearance, your manners, and your attitude. If you miss the mark on any of these things you have lost an opportunity for employment. Here is a last minute list to help you prepare for the interview. You might think that these items are a given, however, experienced employers have enough knowledge of bad interviews to know what turns them off a job candidate. These ideas will help you ace the interview and avoid interview blunders.

• Take a shower and shave.
• Brush your teeth and use mouthwash.
• Use a deodorant.
• Comb your hair.
• Clean and trim your nails.
• Wear clean, freshly pressed clothes.
• Wear the proper clothes.
• Avoid flashy colors, loud fashions and excessive jewelry.
• Avoid strong perfumes or colognes.
• Bring your resume, identification card, work permits and social security card.
• Arrive 15 minutes early before the interview begins.
• Don't bring anyone with you to the interview.
• Turn your cell phone off.

Dress how you would dress for work.

• If you are interviewing for an executive level position wear a suit.
• If you are interviewing for a clerical position wear a conservative outfit.
• If you are interviewing for a warehouse job, keep it simple with a clean shirt and pants, and keep your work shoes in the trunk.
• Be prepared to start work immediately.
